Give Thanks to the Lord

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. — Psalm 136: 1, 26

We had a gorgeous weekend.

The sky was blue and the sun was out.

Our time outside was refreshing.

The flowers and plants Kirk tends are growing abundantly.

Our Mexican lime tree is dropping 20-30 limes each week.

And our neighbors shared their lemons and tangerines with us.

We are blessed.

And we give thanks to God.

He is good.

His love endures forever.

Set Your Mind on Things Above

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. — Colossians 3:2

Yesterday we hiked up to Potato Chip rock.

Here's my friend Kelly, sitting on the edge.

Abby and Kirk and I hiked up here several years ago.

Then Abby and Kirk hiked it again a few times.

We got some great pictures of them.

God asks us to set our minds on things above instead of on earthly things.

It's much easier to do that when we're outside marveling at God's creation.

Help me to set my mind on You, O Lord.

Let the Message of Christ Dwell Among You

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. — Colossians 3:16

Today we celebrate the first day of Advent.

Our Jewish friends celebrate the festival of Hanukkah.

Both prepare us for the coming of Jesus.

We set up our nativity yesterday.

A fitting reminder of the season.

And of God's gift to us — His Son, our Lord Jesus.

Singing to God with gratitude in our hearts for his precious gift.

I Always Thank My God for You

I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. — 1 Corinthians 1:4

I try to pray throughout the day, thanking God and asking for His wisdom.

I often fail, but it's humbling.

God gives me everything.

He watches over me and comforts me.

He keeps His promises to me.

There is nothing he cannot do.

I always thank my God for you.

He has given us His grace through Christ Jesus.

We are blessed.

Come Before Him With Thanksgiving

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. — Psalm 95:2

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving.

Today we are thankful for a wonderful time with family, even though we were missing quite a few of them.

Our prayers are with those who couldn't join us.

Lots of prayer requests in our extended family.

And we thank God for the ability to bring our concerns and praises to Him in prayer.

He listens and answers us when we cry to Him.

Abby picked out this centerpiece that matched our tablecloths and napkins perfectly!

We are thanking God for beautiful flowers created by Him!

I Will Praise God's Name

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. — Psalm 69:30

Today we celebrated Thanksgiving.

We actually started last night with our church service for Thanksgiving eve.

A worshipful time to thank God and praise His name in song.

Today we had our families over for dinner.

Steve made twice-baked potatoes.

Liz made cracker corn, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and cranberry sauce.

Abby made a chocolate pie for Carly so we could celebrate a day late.

We are grateful to God for giving us a loving family, good food, and great friends.

Happy Thanksgiving!

His Love Endures Forever

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. — Psalm 100:5

God is so good, He's so good to me.

His love endures forever.

He is faithful and just.

Even when I'm unfaithful, He continues to be faithful to me.

In fact, His faithfulness continues through all generations.

To our children and our children's children.

Today we celebrate Carly's birthday.

We'll have a family dinner tomorrow with birthday chocolate pie.

God's love endures forever.

All the days of our lives.

Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. — Psalm 100:4

During this Thanksgiving week, we stop and take time to thank God for His goodness.

We give thanks to Him for all he has done.

We gather together as families to ask His blessing.

And we praise His name.

Giving thanks to Him for sending His Son, our Lord Jesus.

I Always Thank My God for You

I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. — 1 Corinthians 1:4

I always thank God for my husband, Kirk.

God has given us His grace through Jesus.

He lived and died for us so we can live with Him forever.

Kirk doesn't get to many movies, but this was one of the few we got to attend as a family.

Tomorrow he'll be golfing with his friends.

We'll have the family over for Thanksgiving along with a few friends.

I always thank God for Kirk because of God's grace given to him in Christ Jesus.

Love the Lord Your God

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. — Matthew 22:37

God commands us to love each other.

But not to just acknowledge others.

Instead, to love and care for them.

With all of our heart, soul, and mind.

With all we have, we are to love them.

That is often easier said than done.

It's probably not even possible without His help and guidance.

Blessed Is the Man Whose Delight Is in the Law of the Lord

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. — Psalm 1:1-2

Today we had a fun potluck at work to celebrate Thanksgiving.

I made party potatoes, and they were a hit.

We also had turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread, rolls, mac 'n cheese, salad, cranberry sauce, and lots of desserts plus sparkling cider.

Our social committee did a great job setting up the event.

Everyone had a wonderful time eating and laughing together.

God asks us to put our delight in Him and His law.

He calls us to meditate on His Word day and night.

Your Word Is Truth

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. — John 17:17

Pilate asked Jesus, What is Truth?

Jesus explained that He is the way, the truth, and the life.

God's Word is truth.

Jesus is the bread of life.

He is the way and the truth.

He sanctifies us with His blood.

Having sacrificed himself and given His life for me.

You Were Sanctified

You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. — 1 Corinthians 6:11

We were washed and sanctified.

We were justified in the name of Jesus.

And we have been filled by the Spirit of our God.

Today Kirk was out in the yard.

Our neighbor took this great picture of him.

And he even got the full moon in the background.

Soaring high above Cowles Mountain.

Amazing.

Open My Eyes

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. — Psalm 119:18

God has opened my eyes to His Word.

His law is sweeter than honey.

It is my guide and path for right living.

It is my compass and the guidebook for my life.

God is opening my eyes to see more and more of Him and His Son, Jesus.

His law is perfect.

God's Commands Give Me Delight

Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight. — Psalm 119:143

My friend's sister died last week after a long struggle with cancer.

Another friend lost her brother earlier this month.

Another had to put her father-in-law in hospice - he fell while in the hospital.

Grief is all around us.

Trouble and distress surround us.

But God's commands give us delight.

Tonight we used these small pumpkins to create succulent gardens.

God's creation gives us delight.

Like Living Stones

You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. — 1 Peter 2:5

Today I met my friend Lainie for lunch.

She treated me to Greek food at cafe Athena. Yum.

Then we walked around her neighborhood, admiring the new construction.

And the tangerines on her tree.

She has a green thumb.

Here are some of the air plants she grew.

We are being build into a spiritual house.

To be a royal priesthood, offering sacrifices to God.

Live As Free People

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. — 1 Peter 2:16

God sent Jesus to set us free from sin.

Therefore, we should live as free people, not as those tied to sin and darkness.

Living in freedom means having the ability to make right choices.

To live in God's will.

As slaves of God.

Not trying to cover up our evil ways.

But to confess them and to turn away from sin.

To turn toward God.

Live as free people.

By Doing Good

For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. — I Peter 2:15

Yesterday I had the day off for Veteran's Day.

I met a friend and we hiked down to Mission Trails from our house.

By the end of the walk, we had both worked up a sweat.

While we were heading down Mission Trails toward the dam, we ran into Mari, another friend.

She was walking her neighbor's dog.

Mari is an example of someone who does good.

She stops to pray for anyone who looks like they are worried or in need.

She told us that in Mexico, even strangers are very receptive when she offers to pray with them.

We Have an Advocate

We have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. — 1 John 2:1-2

Today I get the day off for Veteran's Day.

Poor Abby has to work.

Today we remember the veterans who have sacrificed for our country.

They act as our advocates for our countrymen.

We have an advocate with the Father in His Son, Jesus.

He is the atoning sacrifice for my sins.

And not only for my sins but also for the sins of the whole world.

Since we live in a broken world, it's a huge comfort to know that Jesus is our advocate.

God's Voice Thunders

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. — Job 37:5

God's voice thunders.

It fills the skies.

He does great things.

All that He does is beyond our understanding.

Here's the pool we swam in at Caesar's Palace.

God provided a beautiful day for us to enjoy the outdoors.

He does great things.

A Royal Priesthood

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. — 1 Peter 2:9

On Friday, my wonderful coworkers took me out to lunch.

Here we are at UTC - most of our marketing team plus a friend who drove over from another building to join us.

A beautiful afternoon in sunny San Diego.

God has blessed me with fun coworkers who enjoy having a good time together.

We are a royal priesthood, a chosen people.

As Christians, we are a holy nation, God's special possession.

Called to declare His praises!

Fear the Lord

Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. — Joshua 24:14

On Thursday we drove over to Las Vegas for the weekend.

We had a great time with 11 of our friends who drove and flew over to join us.

Here we are at dinner Saturday night before going to hear Sting.

This is one of our tables - the other was in the next room.

We had a delicious dinner and fun conversation.

So blessed to have such a great group of friends.

All of whom serve the Lord and fear Him.

We Will Serve the Lord

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. — Joshua 24:15

Today we drove back from Las Vegas.

After a fun weekend of laughter with friends.

We stopped at the Black Bear Diner in Barstow.

And we got an apple cobbler to bring home.

Very tasty.

We had a huge lunch with our friends Brad and Peggy.

I had birthday cards and gifts waiting when we got home.

Then we watched Sidekicks together and shared popcorn in the evening.

They Have Been Cleansed

But whoever does not have them [these qualities] is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. — 2 Peter 1:9

Yesterday my work friends treated me to lunch at UTC after decorating my desk.

My friend ordered a whole pizza, and Kirk got to enjoy the leftovers! Yum.

A very fun way to end my work week and start my vacation.

God calls us to add to our faith.

Goodness, perseverance, self-control, mutual affection, knowledge, and love.

Without these I'm just nearsighted - and I really am.

Without these qualities I'm blind to God's goodness in my life.

When I'm not exhibiting these qualities, I'm ignoring the sacrifice Jesus made for me.

I'm forgetting that He has cleansed me from my past sins.

Your Knowledge of Our Lord

To godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  — 2 Peter 1:7-8

If we possess the qualities of godliness, affection, and love, God can use us for His purposes.

These qualities will keep us from being ineffective.

They will keep us from being unproductive in our knowledge of Jesus.

Saturday when Abby and I went to Fashion Valley, we were greeted by this Christmas tree.

It wasn't even Halloween yet, and the Christmas decorations were up.

It seems strange to celebrate so early.

But we do want to remember the birth of our Savior.

Every day - not just during the Christmas season.

Add to Your Faith Goodness

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness. — 2 Peter 1:5-6

God gives us situations where we need to have self-control.

And at times it seems impossible without His guidance.

He gives us situations where we need to persevere.

And at times we can't keep going on our own.

Last week I prayed with and for a coworker who was struggling in many ways.

She was broken downhearted, and defeated.

I asked God to wrap a hedge of protection and love around her.

And this morning that prayer was answered, and she was surrounded by support and love.

When she shared with me this turn of events, I mentioned that it was a complete answer to the prayer I had prayed over her last week.

Our God is an awesome God.

He loves and cares for us.

He is adding daily to my faith.

And God is teaching me self-control, perseverance, and even godliness.

Thank You, Lord!

He Has Given Us Everything We Need

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. — 2 Peter 1:3

Today is the first day of November.

Last night we had about a dozen kids dressed up and excited to trick or treat.

Friday we had our office party and my team dressed up as 50s.

We won the group costume contest.

God. has given us everything we need for a godly life.

Help me to shine your glory and goodness throughout the week.
