Live As God's Slaves

For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. — 2 Peter 2:15-16

Yesterday we had a mom/daughter day at Mama Mia.

What a fun show!

Thry even offered a signature cocktail.

So of course, we each had to try. one.

It is God's will that by doing good we should silence ignorant and foolish people.

God commands us not to use our freedom as a cover-up for evil.

But to live as God's slaves.

Live As Free People

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. — 1 Peter 2:16

God sent Jesus to set us free from sin.

Therefore, we should live as free people, not as those tied to sin and darkness.

Living in freedom means having the ability to make right choices.

To live in God's will.

As slaves of God.

Not trying to cover up our evil ways.

But to confess them and to turn away from sin.

To turn toward God.

Live as free people.

My Antonia

I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. — Romans 6:19

On Thursday, I will meet with my book club on zoom.

After that, we'll have choir via zoom.

The book we are reading is My Antonia by Willa Cather.

It gives an interesting glimpse of Nebraska fields and life on the American prairie.

Willa Cather moved to Nebraska when she was just ten years old.

So she writes this novel with a first-hand look at life in Nebraska in the late 1800s.

Thanks Be to God

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. — Romans 6:17

Kirk has been practicing creating some new drinks.

Here is his Piña Colada with a sprig of mint an a slice of pineapple.

Very refreshing, we sipped them outside in our courtyard on Monday evening.

Thanks be to God for his goodness.

He is teaching us His way.

And He is calling us to obey from our hearts.

The Result Is Eternal Life

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. — Romans 6:22

Sunday I went for a walk around the neighborhood with two friends.

We wore our masks and social distanced ourselves.

And we had a great time together.

Kirk, Abby and I watched our church service together.

I sang the anthem, "Day By Day and With Each Passing Moment." https://livestream.com/fpcsd/events/9038961/videos/206197623

Our pastor preached on Psalm 71 about growing old and finding purpose in life.

Very timely as Kirk will be retiring in June.

Later, I had a zoom meeting with two of my choir friends.

We had a great time together catching up.

Then I got a call from a friend who had applied for a position with my company.

They offered him the job on Friday.

What a huge answer to prayer.

God had blessed me with wonderful friends.

He hears and answers my prayers.

And He guides me each day.

Remembering Mom Rita

Now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. — Romans 8:22

Today is the anniversary of Mom Rita's death in 2011.

That was 9 years ago, but it seems like just yesterday.

Kirk and I  miss our moms very much.

So we created a slideshow of some of our favorite family photos.

You can view it here:

A loving tribute to Rita and Gary.

We found old photos of their family, friends, and Rita as a baby, a young child, a teenager, a new bride, and a young mom.

As well as photos of their 50th wedding anniversary.

We have been blessed with a wonderful family and very special friends.
