Conduct Yourselves in a Manner Worthy of the Gospel

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.  — Philippians 1:27

Paul continues in his letter,  asking us to live a life worth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Then he will know that we are able to stand firm in the Holy Spirit.

And we'll be able to work together.

Not arguing or trying to go our own way.

Striving as one, with one purpose, for the faith of the gospel.

The Voice of Angels

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” — Revelation 5:12

The voice of many angels worship God night and day.

In one voice they say, Worthy is the Lamb!

Jesus was slain to receive power, wealth, wisdom and strength.

To Him be honor and glory and praise.

He alone is worthy of our adoration.

Be Worthy of Respect

Be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. — Titus 1:2

God calls me to be worthy of respect.

And to be self-controlled.

He is working in me so I will be sound in faith.

And living in love.

And filling me with His Holy Spirit so I can grow in endurance.

And be temperate in my thoughts and actions.

I am a work in progress.

And I'm grateful He has not given up on me.

Great Is the Lord and Worthy of Praise

Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain. — Psalm 48:1

God is great.

He is our Lord and Savior.

And He is most worthy of our praise.

This afternoon Abby and I will head over to the Westgate Hotel.

We'll celebrate Mother's Day with their high tea.

A chance to dress up and spend time together.

Last year we had a such a fun and delicious time enjoying tea, sandwiches, desserts, and macroons.

We enjoyed watching the other mothers and daughters.

And listening to the harpist.

And laughing and talking together.

We are looking forward to another fun afternoon together.

God is worthy of our praise!

He Will Baptize You with the Holy Spirit

The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. — Luke 3:15-17

The people were wondering if John might be the Messiah, but he was not.

John was sent to prepare the way for Jesus.

He came to baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Sunday we celebrate our baptism and renew our commitment to Jesus.

Our worship service will focus on God's faithfulness to us.

We will thank Him for the blessings He gives us.

And we will pray for our country

And for those of our friends and family who are recovering from covid.

We know God is holding them in His hands and healing them.

Glory and Praise

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. — Revelation 5:12

Palm Desert Sunset

We just returned from a week in Palm Desert, relaxing by the pool and eating way too much delicious food.

Kirk got to play lots of golf.


And we enjoyed card games and other games with our friends.

Kaiser called Thursday to let me know that the CT scan came back negative.

They will do another one in six months, just to make sure I'm still doing fine.

I have been covered in prayers.

God is good, and he continues to bless me.

To Him be all glory and praise.

Praying for You

We constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. — 2 Thessalonians 1:11

In Scripture, Paul reminds me to pray continually.

I ask God to help me do that more and more.

I also try to pray regularly for my friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, and people I encounter during the day.

Our pastor Jerry needs healing. So do many others.

My coworkers need encouragement.

The Rogers family needs comfort in the loss of Gary.

And when we remember our times with him, we think of Rita, too.

My sister-in-law Miki needs comfort and healing in the loss of her mom and dad.

My friend Dave lost his dad this year.

So did the Pulliam and McSwain families and many others.

Thank you, Lord, for hearing our prayers and answering them.

Give us wisdom, fill us with your power that you may fulfill every good purpose of yours through us.

In Jesus's name we pray, Amen.

Praise the Lord

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. — Proverbs 31:30

God's beautiful creation simply screams out His goodness.

The skies declare His handiwork. The oceans proclaim His power.

The waves bow before Him.

And so do I.

God is great, powerful, and majestic.

He is worthy of our praise.

God Knows Me

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. — Jeremiah 1:5

Wednesday I had my second MUGA scan to check my heart after chemo treatments.

They had some problems getting my blood due to the scar tissue in my arm, but all went well.

The first scan appeared to be very similar to the one I had done in March.

So I will meet with the radiation doctor at UCSD next week.

One of my acquaintances at church suggested I also look into proton beam therapy so it is not as likely to affect my heart.

So I have my list of questions ready for her (the doctor).

God knew me before he even formed me in the womb.

He set me apart before I was born. He is worthy of all of my praise.
