Keep His Commands and Obey Him

It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. — Deuteronomy 13:4

God asks us to follow Him, even through the valleys of life.

Last week, my fellow singer Patti lost her son-in-law after a long illness.

And another singer Linda lost her sister.

Following God through the valleys and revering Him helps us get through these rough times.

Serving Him can be more of a challenge during the good times.

It's easy to ignore Him and forget to thank Him when things are going well.

To ignore His commands and forget to obey Him.

Lord, help me to serve you and hold fast to you every minute of each day.

My Father Will Love Them

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. — John 14:23 

Jesus tells us that anyone who loves Him will obey Him.

And that person will also obey Jesus' teaching.

God the Father will love them.

And we will come to them.

We will make our home with them.

God's commands are worth listening to and remembering.

I love His Word, it gives me light and comfort and wisdom.

I have many plans in my heart, but they are not all of the Lord.

I must follow the Lord's purpose in my life.

And I must revere and honor God.

He commands me to obey Him.

To serve Him.

To hold fast to the Lord.

To follow Him and revere Him.

To keep His commands

And He watches over me and helps me stay on the right path.

You Must Follow God

It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. — Deuteronomy 13:4 

God calls us to obey Him.

And to follow Him in all we do.

We must love and revere and honor Him.

He commands us to obey him.

To serve Him.

To keep His commands.

To hold fast to Him.

To call Him our Lord.

Obey Jesus' Teaching

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. — John 14:23

It is not always easy to obey Jesus' teaching.

Especially since I don't even know the whole Bible by memory.

Even so, He asks me to get to know His Word, and I try to read it every day.

His Word guides me in the way I should go.

And His Holy Spirit lives inside me to guide and direct my thoughts and actions.

To convict me when I start down the wrong path.

And to keep me humble.

One way I can show my love to Jesus is to obey His teaching.

Help me, Lord, to obey.

Thanks Be to God

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. — Romans 6:17

Kirk has been practicing creating some new drinks.

Here is his Piña Colada with a sprig of mint an a slice of pineapple.

Very refreshing, we sipped them outside in our courtyard on Monday evening.

Thanks be to God for his goodness.

He is teaching us His way.

And He is calling us to obey from our hearts.
 

God Loves Us

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them." — John 14:23

Friday I met with my surgeon for my 6-month checkup.

Everything looked good to him, and I'll see him again in 7 months.

In 6 months I'll have my first mammogram since my surgery so they can make sure everything is still fine.

Today was also my 6th radiation treatment. Just 14 left to go.

We headed over to the Habit in La Mesa for dinner. 

Kirk had to top his dinner off with ice cream.

We are blessed.

God Is With Us to the End of the Age

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” — Matthew 28:18-20

The great thing is that God has been with me every day of my entire life.

Even when I don't feel him near me, He is there.

He knows my prayers and thoughts before I even think them.

During this past year of cancer diagnosis and treatment, He was and is still with me.

He gave me, Kirk, and Abby the strength to get through this time and come out even stronger.

I am amazed!

As we grieved over the loss of Kirk's dad, God surrounded us with His love.

In the loss of our friends' dads, God comforted us in knowing that they are now with Him.

We can sing God's praises, knowing that Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us as we grieve.

Jesus is with us always. Wow!

I Find Delight

Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. — Psalm 119:34-35

Kirk had a great day of golf last week at Torrey Pines with some buddies.

What a view!

He got a birdie on this hole with an amazing swing, getting the ball right on the green, about 5 feet away from the hole.

Then he had another fun early morning with some other friends later in the week at a different course.

He's back in the classroom on Wednesday, and will miss his days of golf.

Hopefully he can get back to into it on his breaks.

He has been so supportive of me during this year of appointments, surgery, weariness, and treatments. 

He has also helped me to stay in God's Word and to find delight in God's plans for our family.
