Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. — Psalm 27:14

I'm naturally impatient.

So it's not easy to wait.

Moses had to wait for 40 years tending sheep before God called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.

Sometimes God asks me to wait, too.

It's not always easy to be strong when I'm waiting.

But God encourages me to take heart.

And to wait for Him.

Not to plow ahead with my own agenda.

Help me, Lord, to wait on You.

Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. — Psalm 27:14

Today I went for a swim before work.

I was able to swim much more quickly and strongly than I could swim last week.

But I kept it to just 30 minutes of side strokes.

And after my swim, I ran into Judy Palm, one of my church friends.

I was in the chilly competition pool, and Judy was in the rec pool.

Great way to start the day.

God calls us to wait for Him.

To be strong and take heart.

And wait for the Lord.

I tend to be impatient.

It's not always easy to wait patiently.

Help me, Lord, to wait on You.

Wait for Mercy

Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. — Jude 1:21

Yesterday I had my second shingles shot.

After the first one, I woke up the next day with a fever.

Sure enough, it happened again.

I woke up with a fever this morning plus a slight headache.

I took some Acetaminophen and felt a bit better, with the fever down from 101 to 99.

And I took a nap this afternoon while Kirk made a delicious lemon meringue pie.

We wait for the mercy of Jesus, who brings us eternal life.

You Turned to God

They tell how you turned to God . . . to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. — 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

This week Aunt Jean turned 93!

Here she is three years ago celebrating her 90th.

How amazing is that.

My brother Tim called last night just to check in.

Last night some friends stopped by after our church service just to hang out and share some excellent.

We are blessed to have family and friends who care about us.

They tell us show they turned to God to serve Him with their lives.

Be Strong and Take Heart

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. — Psalm 27:14

It's easier for me  to get impatient than to wait.

But God's timing is not mine.

That's actually a good thing.

God's timing is the best; mine usually is not.

Over the years, He has helped me to develop patience.

When I start to worry or get anxious, He reminds me that He is in control, not me.

Our marketing manager at work is leaving us after this week.

She is moving on to work at a start-up, and it sounds like a great opportunity for her.

She will be missed.

As part of the reorganization, my boss will supervise more people.

And as a result, I will supervise one more writer than I do now.

She is wonderful, so I am glad to do it, but it will be a lot more work.

Still, God is in control and His timing is best.

So I will take heart and wait for the Lord.

The Lord Is Good

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. — Lamentations 3:25-26

God is good to those of us who hope in Him.

To those of us who search for Him,

Who do His will and look for His guidance.

He directs our paths.

God helps me wait for Him.

The Lord helps me to be quiet, even in the midst of our busy lives.

He asks me to wait quietly for His salvation.

Salvation through His Son, our Lord Jesus.

Here is the September moon, shining over our neighborhood.

Today is the first day of the new month!

I Wait for God

Lord, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God. — Psalm 38:15

This week Kirk's brother Kyle celebrated his birthday.

Next week our niece Maggie celebrates hers.

Maggie's is on the same as my mom's was.

Here she is with Becky - carrying Vicki, Aunt Judy, and her daughter Peggy.

Love this picture of the Turner/Drayer/Kunz gals.

When I wait for God, He answers me.

He is the Lord, my God.

Be Still Before the Lord

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. — Psalm 37:7

I am not prone to being still.

I enjoy moving and getting up to take care of things while others sit around.

I'm also not always very patient, although I've gotten more so over the years.

God is still molding and shaping me.

Thankfully, He's not finished yet.

I still fret when people act in wicked ways.

But God is teaching me to rely on Him, not to fret, and to turn my worries over to Him.

Exercise helps me de-stress.

Today I had my class at the Y. This was my partial view.

We started with cardio and then tried some more of the leg machines, the adductor and abductor, leg press, leg lifts, and more.

I may be a bit stiff tomorrow, but it was fun today!

Tasty Pies

You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
— Psalm 59:17

Sunday afternoon before our girls' Bible study, we made mini pies in Mason jar lids — gluten free crusts from scratch and regular crusts using refrigerator pie dough.

Cherry seemed to be the fruit of choice among the middle schoolers, although personally, I'm partial to blueberry as well.

Sheri prepared an excellent Bible study about how at certain times of our lives God calls us to wait.

God told Abraham that he would have a son. But Abraham had to wait 25 years for Isaac to be born!

And then God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, and Abraham obeyed.

So waiting a few days for the pathology report doesn't seem like quite such a long time.

Since God is my strength, I am not anxious, even when I have to wait for answers.

I'm not sure how quickly I would move to obey God if He were to ask me to make such a significant sacrifice as He asked of Abraham. But I will continue to sing praise to God for His goodness and love.

I know I can rely on Him in every situation. He is my strength!

A Day of Rest

Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave. — I Kings 8:56

Torrey Pines State Park and Beach
God has given us times to rest. That's really hard for me. I want to get up and move around and do something.

Anything other than rest.

But God rested, too. And He asks us to take a Sabbath day of rest each week.

And when we're healing, God gives us the space and the extra time we need to rest and recover.

Last night we had a chance to rest and relax with friends over dinner.

Today the rain has stopped and the birds are singing outside our window. The world is at rest.

Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him; do not fret. — Psalm 37:37
