The Lord Is Good

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him. — Lamentations 3:25

God is good to us.

To those whose hope is in Him.

To the ones who seek Him.

Today is the last day of February.

The year is going by very fast!

Saturday Abby and I headed over to the Y to swim.

The weather was gorgeous and the pool was warm.

We were able to get a lane to share without waiting at all.

It felt so refreshing.

The Lord is good!

You Must Follow God

It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. — Deuteronomy 13:4

God calls us to obey Him.

And to follow Him in all we do.

We must love and revere and honor Him.

He commands us to obey him.

To serve Him.

To keep His commands.

To hold fast to Him.

To call Him our Lord.

God Sent His One and Only Son Into the World

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. — 1 John 4:9

Today I met a friend and a new acquaintance for a walk around our neighborhood.

What a beautiful morning.

We had a great discussion and a fun walk.

The new acquaintance is recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

She will have surgery in April.

She will do a full mastectomy on one side plus reconstruction.

And she has already quit her job as school librarian, due to all the appointments she has needed.

Planning to resume again next fall.

So it was good to be able to reassure her that things will be okay.

And that God is giving her this time to be quiet and peaceful as she prepares for surgery.

Without the stress of her job.

This is how God shows His love among us: He sent His Son.

God sent His one and only Son into our world that we might live through Him.

Those Who Plan What Is Good Find Love

Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. — Proverbs 14:22

Those who plan to do evil go astray.

Tonight Vladimir Putin began air attacks on Kiev.

We are praying that his plan will be thwarted.

And the forces of good will prevail.

Those who plan what is good will find love.

And they will find faithfulness.

We are praying for the safety of the civilians on both sides.

That God will wrap His loving arms around them and give them his peace that passes understanding.

Thank you, Lord.

Those Who Plan What Is Good Find Love

Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. — Proverbs 14:22

Those people who plan to do evil go astray from God's plan.

But those who plan what is good, find that God's love surrounds them.

And they find faithfulness in God.

Here is a Lunar new year dragon in the lobby of our hotel.

We got away with friends this weekend, and had a fun time.

We couldn't stop laughing.

God is good.

The Father Has Sent His Son

We have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. — 1 John 14:15

God has sent His Son to the be our Savior.

Jesus is the Savior of the world.

But if I were the only person in the world, He would have died just for me.

He did die just for me.

And for each of us, even while we were still sinner.

Amazing.

And wonderful!

They Believed

They believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped. — Exodus 4:31

The people of Israel believed.

When they heard that the Lord was concerned about them, they paid attention.

I know God cares about me, too.

I believe He is concerned about me.

He guides me through the day.

And He watches over me at night.

He sees my misery when I'm worried or distressed.

Help me to bow down and worship you, Lord.

God Lives in Us

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. — 1 John 4:12

We haven't seen God.

Even when God passed by Moses, He had Moses hide his face.

Because of Jesus, God lives in us.

His love is made complete in us.

For Kirk's birthday we went to the Brigantine.

And they brought him mud pie for dessert.

Fortunately, they also brought spoons for each of us!

If we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete.

We Ought to Love One Another

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  — 1 John 4:11

God loved us more than we could imagine.

He loves us still.

And He reminds us of His love every day.

In His creation and in His Word.

Yesterday I had a mole removed from my knee.

I thought I was just going for a referral.

But the kind PA suggested we take care of it right then.

And she removed a spot on my nose that had come back from 5 years ago.

She had a busy morning with a clinic to remove moles for other people.

But she took the time to get all of her equipment out again just for me.

Since God so loved us, we also ought to love each other.

Help me, Lord, to take the time to do that, too.

Nothing Can Separate Us from God's Love

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 8:38-39

Nothing can separate me from God's love.

He has paid for my sins with the blood of his Son, Jesus.

And now I'm His.

Nothing can separate us.

Not the present or the future.

No powers, nor anything else in all creation.

Not angels or demons.

Nothing will be able to separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus my Lord.

When I'm out hiking, I'm reminded of that through the beauty of His creation.

What an amazing blessing.

This Is Love

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. — 1 John 4:10

Yesterday was Valentine's Day.

These are the beautiful flowers Kirk had waiting for me when I came home from work.

Along with a very sentimental and thoughtful card.

I got him some Sees candy, and some for Abby.

We are a loving family.

But our love can't even compare with God's love for us.

This is love.

Not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son.

God sent Jesus as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

He sacrificed His Son for me.

That's love!

Love One Another

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. — John 13:35
Yesterday we watched the Super Bowl with friends.
The weather was warm - a beautiful day.
These are the lemon napkins my sister-in-law sent me for my birthday.
Along with some lemon placemats that could be used like trivets.
We had chocolate-covered strawberries and chocolate cake for desert.
And our friends brought some really nice wines plus smoked salmon.
Kirk grilled steaks. And it was a good game.
Thank you, Lord, for your blessings.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Love Never Fails

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. — 1 Corinthians 13:7

Love never fails.

It always protects.

Love always trusts.

Love always perseveres.

It keeps on going when I'm worn out and tired.

Love never fails.

God So Loved the World

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16

Today was Kirk's birthday.

And our friend Ralph's memorial service.

After the service we walked down to the harbor and had lunch at the Brigantine.

A beautiful day. And our table was right by the window, overlooking the water.

This was our view.

After lunch, we walked back to the church.

Then we went back to the church in the evening for a symphony concert.

A fun day with friends.

Love Rejoices

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. — 1 Corinthians 13:6

Our niece Maggie celebrated her birthday yesterday in Virginia.

This was also my mom's birthday.

And my boss at Christian Ed. Publishers.

My mom was my mentor and my Christian example.

She would stay up late when I was in elementary and high school just to talk.

She would answer my questions about God, Jesus, and the world.

She was also a singer, singing tenor in the choir my dad conducted.

My parents used to joke that she was the only pregnant tenor in his choir!

A Clanging Cymbal

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. — 1 Corinthians 13:1

God is love.

If I don't have love, I am only a resounding gong.

Without love, I am just a clanging cymbal.

If I speak in the tongues of men but don't have love, I'm just an empty void.

God is love.

Love is patient.

Love is kind.

Help me Lord, to love others.

To share Your love with those I meet.

Pray for Those Who Persecute You

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. — Matthew 5:44-45

Pray for those who persecute me?

Are you kidding?

But that's what God requires for us to be children of God in heaven.

He causes the sun to rise on evil and good.

God sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

He is worthy of my praise.

Today is Ernie's birthday.

His first one in Ohio.

We miss him, but he's enjoying riding his trainer even in the cold winter.

Love Your Neighbor

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. — Matthew 5:43

God has told us to love our neighbor.

And to love our enemies.

Plus, to pray for those who persecute us.

When we love God first,

He helps us to love our neighbors and our enemies as well.

Sing Joyfully to the Lord

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. — Psalm 33:1

Sing joyfully to our Lord.

It is fitting for us to praise Him.

All who are righteous praise Him.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise Him all creatures here below.

It is fitting for the upright to praise Him.

God Loves Righteousness

The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. — Psalm 33:5

Yesterday morning we hiked Iron Mountain.

It started off chilly, but by the time we reached the summit, the sun had come out en force.

Very fun hike with girlfriends of all ages.

And a gorgeous day.

It gave us a chance to catch up on our lives.

We talked about some of the books we've enjoyed.

Some of my favorites include, "The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet," "Caleb's Crossing" and "The Music Shop."

And from elementary school, "The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler."

The Lord loves righteousness and justice.

The earth is full of His unfailing love.

The Word of the Lord Is Right

For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. — Psalm 33:4

God's Word is right and true.

The Lord is faithful.

He is faithful in all He does.

He is Creator and Lord.

And Mighty, Counselor.

Wonderful, Majestic Father.

And we worship Him with all our hearts.

My God on Whom I Can Rely

You, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. — Psalm 59:10

Yesterday I got to work at home.

Once a week now I can work at home, save on gas, and get lots more done without the commute.

Today we sent our baby pictures to our social committee at work.

Sounds like we'll have a baby photo contest to see if we can name the babies.

Mine will be fairly easy since it will probably be one of the few black & white ones.

Very fun idea.

God is the one on whom I rely.

He is my fortress.

I Will Sing of Your Strength

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. — Psalm 59:16

Last night we went to a class on the Confessions of Augustine.

We are on Book 3.

It's a translation written by Sarah Ruden.

We had a good discussion about Augustine as a teenager, lamenting over the empty place in his heart.

And his mom praying for him with her tears.

Very similar to my mom praying for each of us her children, the week before she died.

I will sing of God's mercies and strength.

Today is Kyle's birthday!

In the morning I will sing of His love.

He is my fortress and my refuge.

Love the Lord Your God

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. — Deuteronomy 6:5

Welcome, February!

Today my friend Lorraine told me about a coworker of hers that was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

I was diagnosed three years ago in January, and my surgery was February 22, 2019.

I was wearing a hat and fall for our 35th anniversary party in October of 2019.

Three years later, my oncologist has said that I don't need to see her again for a year.

Last week when I got my hair cut, my hairdresser mentioned how my hair has come back in thick and full.

Just as it was before the chemo.

My cancer is either in remission or completely healed!

What a wonderful miracle.

I'm praying the same for Lorraine's friend.

May God bless her through this time as He has blessed me.

And may she feel His loving arms holding her tight and surrounding her with His deep peace.

God Is Spirit

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. — John 4:24

Yesterday I met my former boss Karen for lunch.

My coworker Brian joined us.

We had a great time catching up and visiting.

Karen took this selfie as we went in to pick up our lunch at UTC.

A very fun break from the work day.

Karen retired a year and a half ago.

She was a wonderful mentor to both of us, and we really appreciated the opportunity to work with her.

God has blessed us all with good friends.
